INDIAN COMMUNISTS AGAINST ISRAELI INROADS INTO INDIA’S MILIATRY ESTBLISEMENT
The 18th Communist Party of India (Marxist) Congress was held in the national capital, New Delhi, and one of its more far-reaching resolutions passed, concerns India’s dealings with Israel.
CPI (M), by winning 60 seats in the last Parliamentary elections, and becoming an outside coalition partner of the ruling UPA government, appears to be making important headway into the democratic set-up of the new re-aligned political composition that has virtually dissolved the 2-party conundrum that could have imposed permanent Brahmanical stranglehold of the two major parties over Indian nation; possibly for decades to come. The new coalition, thus has given new clout to regional as well as other ideology-based political parties to participate more robustly in framing the basic policies of the Central Government, including its foreign affairs and economic orientation.
Even though CPI (M), is not in the Union cabinet, the Common Minimum Programme agreement threshed out by all coalition partners does dictate and control the coalition policy guidelines, while according the full participation rights to CPI (M) to make important contributions to broad policy decisions, that the coalition government is duty bound to follow.
The 18th CPI (M) Congress calls India to “cease its military co-operation with and all military procurement from Israel.
This shows the level of alarm that has been raised within India’s political circles, around the reckless and short-sighted rush by Brahmanical political parties like Congress and the erstwhile ruling BJP-led coalition to embrace Israel, as the first step to be welcomed in US ruling circles. Though, however much US and Israel are interconnected in the field of military co-operation, the political aims of each are at many levels quite different and even contradictory. The Communist Party of India (M)’s highest body resolving totally against any Israeli co-operation and military procurement is therefore, a fair warning to India’s ruling coalition, to review its head-long and short-sighted rush to invite Israel to become a virtual strategic partner, when India’s own unfolding prospects through the new global developments in its own neighborhood, would impose a need to remain totally free from any restrictive commitments that could pose serious danger to its future as an economic and military power living in harmonious relationship not only Asia, but even with Central Asia, Middle East and Africa.
BJP media has already taken up cudgel against CPI (M)’s resolution, branding it ‘most reactionary’. However, the CPI (M) move is bound to become a more widely debated issue in public, as it should, so that clock and dagger operations in the dead of night, without general public becoming aware of the full ramification of such increasing suicidal dependence on a known source of world destabilization, disharmony and conspiratorial subversion should receive deserving public scrutiny.
