DE-RECOGNIZANCE OF SHIV SENA AS A POLITICAL PARTY

Attn: Mohtarmi Janab Aslam Ghazi Saheb, As Salaamualaikum

You may recall during the BMC election campaign days, I had phoned you to request you, that the published material against Islam in Saamna is enough to legally get Shiv Sena de-recognized. You did agree to pass the message to others to think on the matter. As I understand, some objection to Samna's reportage of Thackeray's venomous speech were filed by Muslim NGO's, but I doubt, anybody asked for de-recognizance of Shiv Sena on the basis of its use of Hindu card so openly and viciously to win election victories.

I would have thought, a joint attempt by united constituents of Third Front that included Dalits, Communists as well as Muslims, would have been quite a formidable opposition, to have taken the matter to its logical end and get Shiv Sena de-recognized. You may note, that Indian Express had brought the old court judgment against Bal Thackeray as a legally tenable precedent to file a case against Thackeray and get the party de-recognized.

Even now, I would appeal to you, to give serious thought to canvass with the Third Front constituents to file such an appeal to courts, to take action against Shiv Sena. The moves in UP against BJP over CDs, should help us here in Maharashtra, to press for such total ban on communal parties when they try fighting elections on Hindutva plank.

With warm regards

Re: Vile Parle flashback by Rakshit Sonawane

Writer Sonawane has not been entirely correct when he writes that after his disenfranchisement, Bal Thackeray had been cautious.

In fact, during last BMC elections, he has again tried to instigate Hindus by directly asking them to challenge Islam. He not only said, the only united Hindus can bring Islam to its knees, he got his election eve speeches published in his Samna newspaper.

The constituents of the Third force that was formed to oppose both Brahmin political groupings, Congress as well as BJP, are reported to have officially approached Election Commission in Mumbai, to take note of Thackeray's use of Hindu religion to win electoral victories and as such his Shiv Sena should be debarred from participating in the elections.

Naturally, the weightage of Third Front cannot compare with either Congress or V.P. Singh's Jan Morcha, for Election Commissioner to take note of the Third Front member's objections against Hindutva propaganda. The matter was quietly buried. Though there is always a chance, given unimpeachable proof of Bal Thackeray's open appeal to Hindu religion to bolster his party's electoral prospects, there may be a move in courts to take the matter even now.
