THE BRITISH WERE THE REAL CONSPIRATORS BEHIND INDIA’S PARTITION

For 58 years, while the Indian Muslims were relentlessly prosecuted by the ruling class for their alleged sin of ‘creating’ Pakistan and 150 millions of them are reduced to a third class citizen of India, thanks to Advani’s comments on Jinnah, truth is coming out, as to who were the actual conspirators of the partition of India. The mainstream media is coming forward with more and more details, which have remained hidden from public gaze.

Samuel Baid, a senior journalist, writes in The Free Press Journal, of June 25, 2005:

“Jinnah carried on a rabid communal movement without being a communalist. He was a highly Anglicized, non-practicing Muslim who least bothered about the sentiments of fellow-Muslims when he drank and ate ham and bacon openly. He carried on the Pakistan movement as a skilled lawyer and talented actor. But who prepared this script for Jinnah?

There is enough material in history to show a section in the British government was using him.

In July 1987, this writer had a long meeting with the Father of Sindhi Nationalism, G. M. Syed in New Delhi, when he was on a visit here.

Syed was a member of Muslim League Working Committee in the 40’s when the Pakistani movement began taking shape. He said Jinnah was against separate homeland for Muslims. But towards the end of 1940, Jinnah received a message from Winston Churchill through then Chief Minister of Punjab, Sir Sikandar Hayat that the Muslim League should now make a positive demand for the homeland. Jinnah was asked to see the viceroy in New Delhi. The Viceroy told him that Sir Zafarullah Khan would prepare the constitution of Pakistan. Earlier, Khan Abdul Wali Khan had produced documentary evidence in Urdu weekly ‘Chattan’ of December 1981 to say that the famous Lahore resolution of March 1940, which became the basis of the separate homeland demand, had actually been drafted by Sir Zafarullah Khan who was considered a minion of the British. The draft was sent to Viceroy Lord Linlithgow, who gave a copy of it to Jinnah on March 12, 1940 without disclosing who was its author. The Lahore resolution consisting of two-nation theory was passed on March 23, 1940. The British could not use Sir Zafarullah directly because he belonged to the Ahmediya community, which Muslims detest.

Dharmindra Gaur, who worked with the Force 136 of the British intelligence during the Second World War, has given a number of instances of their agency’s use of Jinnah and the Muslim League to prevent independence or sabotage national government. In “Behind the enemy lines”, he writes that Churchill had approved plans to frustrate any national government in India after the British left. For this purpose Muslim League activists had been supplied a lot of arms.”

The spate of media blitz on the subject of partition and Jinnah may not bring in immediate change in the attitude of the Hindu hardliners against Indian Muslims, as Muslim plight is more concerned with their own ability and willingness to claim their right from the ruling class by organizing as a distinct alternative to center left coalition, that is in control at the moment.

Indian Muslims are a pauperized lot at the moment and would need the same kind of support that BJP and Congress are managing to acquire--- to enable them to acquire the critical mass. The new opening to Pakistan, the Kashmir thaw, the new globalization trends, all offer the right kind of moral boosters for Indian Muslims to stand up and be counted; as unless the 150 million Muslims get their political rights, India will always remain threatened with insecurities that will hamper its smooth economic progress. The old ruling class will have to accommodate Muslim political aspirations to forestall India being targeted by other democratization and regime change threats that seems to be always lurking on the horizon and ever-ready for intervention at a time of their own choosing. The Nehrus and Patels of today should realise that it is better to be magnanimous and generous to achieve unity and understanding between all the diverse communities of this great nation, than to become the target of western machinations that disfigured India in the past.
