THE US PRESIDENT BUSH SHOULD TAKE FULL BLAME FOR THE MESS IN PAKISTAN

Continuous meddling in the affairs of a supposedly independent nation, a UN member, and a nuclear armed at that, has to result in the mess and confusion that has afflicted Pakistan. In fact, at the moment Pakistan President or Chief of Army staff, as Hamid Gul will have it, is the only person which can save Pakistan from a terrible state of anarchy. President Bush has been treating Pakistan, its people and its rulers, as its bonded slaves, that should carry out its orders, in complete disregard of the conditions at the grass-root. If Bush has used bombing Iraq into submission, he may think, he can play the same trick on Pakistan. He will be completely ignoring the basic character of Pakistani people, both in Pakistan and all over the world. Bush will have a full fledge world war on his hands if he tries to use force to push his phony war on terror in Pakistan. The best course for Bush and Rice will be to find a deep hole and just disappear for a time, till Musharraf clears the air and brings the country to some kind of stability and normalcy. Bush has been riding roughshod over Pakistan since 9/11 and the game plan of Jewish neo-con was unthinkingly forced on Bush and Bush had to go into Afghanistan and Iraq, against all the evidence that 9/11 had no direct reference to either Afghanistan or Iraq. Bush and his NeoCons had to fool American people to cover the disaster of 9/11 and they had forcefully hijacked Pakistan to go along with its dirty designs in this part of the world. India should take proper lessons from Pakistan, especially now that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has made it a personal agenda to bring in US, to meddle into India’s own internal affairs. It makes no difference to US, if either Pakistan or India survives or is destroyed. All they care for is the politics of their own internal equations. Time for Indian leaders to dread very carefully in matters of bilateral relations between the two neighbours! This will not be right time to unnecessarily muddy the waters. Pakistanis may find India a much better and manageable adversary than the far off America of President Bush. We must side with the people of Pakistan and declare our neutrality in the ongoing confusion and especially in all references to any US moves to involve us in Pakistani affairs. Unwanted lecturing and unsolicited advice, either officially or unofficially through media plants, should be avoided at all costs. Indian TV channels will be possibly available to Pakistani people. India should not appear to be using its media to add to the unrest in Pakistan.

With all his faults and defaults, Musharraf is the only visible figure that can bring some kind of early normality. All games around infusing democracy and constitutional probity at the point of guns, either Pakistani or the US, can never bring early peace to the beleaguered countries. Pakistan should be treated as a quarantined nation, infected with a virus that is contagious and dangerous.

Ghulam Muhammed, Mumbai
