‘Electoral Emergency’ or ‘Existential Emergency’

‘Electoral Emergency’ or ‘Existential Emergency’

The way BJP’s top leaders are going down on their knees to disown the CD that had been released by their own UP leaders, it is apparent that they have chewed more than they can swallow.

The time for reckoning has come for BJP, to atone for its sins of institutionalizing contempt of Indian constitution in trying to win electoral votes on the basis of crass communal sloganeering.

This time the thief was caught with the hand in the till.

Of course, the way justice is meted out in India, it may still be a miracle, if BJP finds itself punished in this ‘electoral emergency’, as L. K. Advani has branded the whole EC’s process of vetting the secular credentials of the political parties, participating in the UP’s current assembly elections. L. K. Advani was referring to Indira Gandhi’s emergency, when she had lost election to parliament from her Amethi seat, to the maverick giant killer, Raj Narayan, and was ready to ‘burn down the whole country’, if anybody tried to dethrone her by such cheap tactics, like winning or losing an election. For her, and for Advani and his party, elections in India are just a farce to hoodwink people into believing they are the masters of their destinies. Still the nightmarish scenario that is facing BJP is nothing short of a existential emergency as if it is hurt at this juncture, it can never raise the banner of Hindutva for all time to come.

The credit for this historical move to derecognize BJP as a secular party, entitle to participate in Indian election, will surely go to another of BJP perennial bete noir, the formidable V. P. Singh, whose Mandal had forced Advani and company to resort to Kamandal politics. It seems V.P. Singh whose government was pulled down by the BJP at the time, seems to have confronted Advani with a checkmate for the game of political chess that has been on the board for decades.

The role of Congress in this process is highly suspicious. It wants to pose as leading the charge, but in fact is preparing the ground to bail out its Brahmin counterpart. Time and again both Congress and BJP have put out that only they both as the Brahmin outfits, are legitimate rulers of India.
