A letter to the Editor

MUSLIMS, IF NOT MINORITY, ARE CERTAIN TO BECOME PART OF THE MAJORITY

The jury may be still out, trying to figure out, what Indian Muslims achieved or lost for being declared a minority, for the last over sixty years of India’s present dispensation of independence; however, one distinct handicap had shackled the Muslims from being part of any majority, that was supposed the rule democratic India. Now with the benevolent intervention of Justice S. N. Srivastava, Muslim do have a choice to rid the stigma of being a minority and try their hand in forming a majority with the cooperation and collaboration of other minorities in this land of minorities --- this time not to beg for pittance, but to become part of the coalition that would share power in the governance of the nation ---- and as is the going rate, a legitimate claimant to all the pelf that goes with the power. After all, if a minority like Brahmins with only 3% ratio in the total population, could collect all like-minded groups --- albeit all of them as opposed to Muslims --- and rule the nation as owners of 85% majority, why Muslims with 15% population ratio, cannot aspire to gather like-minded groups around them and put up a working majority to become part of the national power grid.

What Muslims lack is, the will power to become members of the ruling majority. As long as they are deliberately hooked to the addiction of fighting for only minority rights, they would hardly be able to get out of their mental ghettos. They should welcome Justice Srivastava, for liberating them from the shackles of remaining a permanent minority, even when their numbers are swelling in all parts of the country. Whatever may be the alleged motives of the Judge, who is generally being castigated in some circles as anti-Muslim, Muslims should have the sagacity and foresight to take in the full impact of the implications of becoming a part of the majority and prepare themselves for their potential role, worthy of their recent past when they gave India its golden age.
